Description
This colorless lime (alkaline) glazed white porcelain (hard-paste) saucer is molded, with a concave-sided, widely-flared profile and a shallow well. The footrim is wiped clean of glaze, leaving a slightly rough surface. The saucer is decorated on its upper surface, only, with sepia and yellow enamels and gilding. The ornament features scrollwork and floral motifs as well as classical trophies such as urns, a chest, a tripod, and an altar. The object originally was was owned by Benjamin Chew of Philadelphia.
