Description
This covered storage basket is typical of those made for trade by Native American artists in New England during the 19th century. The basket is comprised of narrow wooden splints and has a circular rim and square base, which give it a rounded square form. Its lid, a low domed circle formed of radiating splints, fits over the rim of the container. The weavers were likely colored with an iron-based dye, and small areas of blue and yellow pigment are visible on the basket’s exterior.
