Romulus and Remus
1825-1835
Description
This wonderful portrayal of the story of Romulus (founder of Rome) and Remus suckled by the Wolf, ultimately may have been inspired by Peter Paul Rubens circa 1616 painting, now in the Capitoline Museum in Rome. By the time this figure group was produced, nearly two centuries later, published images of Rubens painting were available to potters and other craftsmen.
