Description
This colorless lime (alkaline) glazed white porcelain (hard-paste) dish was molded and has a shallow well. The footrim is wiped clean of glaze. This dish is painted in blue enamel, on the upper surface, only, and is edged in brown. The well bears the arms of van Heemskerck (Dutch market), featuring a rampant lion; the crest a tub with five plumes. The shield is supported by two griffins looking back and standing on a scrolled and tasseled pedestal. The well is bordered by a narrow band of chinese flowers; the rim is bordered in floral swags and scrollwork in the European taste.
