Description
This half-pint liquid measure was created in Brooklyn and it adheres to New York State's 1851 act adopting the United States goverment's standards for measures used to regulate fair commerce. This measure may have been part of a graduated set which could include sizes from a gill up to one gallon. The makers, James A. and John H. Kissam operated a manufactory and retail store at 81 Fulton Street in Brooklyn from about 1852 to 1882 where they sold standards specifically for use in the grocery business.
