Jenny Lind's celebrity extended to dining and tea table silverware shortly after her arrival in the United States 1850. New York silver designer, Albert Coles, capitalized on the Swedish vocal artist's international fame, naming a brand new flatware pattern after her. Unlike the “Jenny Lind” lady’s hats, perfumes and soaps, handkerchiefs and countless other novelty items, silver tableware offered a lasting luxury. New York silver flatware makers reproduced variations on the original pattern, retailing it under their own mark, such as this silverplated copper spoon by John Cook. Cook worked at the same address as Albert Coles firm for at least twenty years.
