Description
This fragment of unglazed earthenware is part of a vessel of a possibly circular but now unknown form. The outer surfaces are cream to buff in color; the center of the body fabric is grey. The exterior features a black painted broad, solid band and, below it, a black-painted line above diagonal slashes with a geometric (foliate?) morif superimposed upon it. The inner surface is undecorated. This object is most likely associated with the Hopi culture. As per the donor Mr. L. T. Alexander, the fragment was acquired "near the Little Colorado River in Winslow, Arizona, 50 miles west of the Petrified Forest." No details are recorded regarding the discovery methods used for this object.
