Description
This colorless lime (alkaline) glazed white porcelain (hard-paste) dish was molded and has a slightly raised footrim, wiped free of glaze. The object is decorated in polychrome enamels and gilding in the "Rose Medallion" style. The central medallion in the well bears the monogram "USG" (Ulysses Simpson Grant, 1822-85) within crossed laurels. Two opposing reserves contain birds and butterflies. Another pair portays "mandarine" groups assembled near a building. Filler ornament includes scrollwork, butterflies, flowers, and leaves.
