Description
This silk and chenille on silk taffeta needlework picture was worked in England or France between 1795 and 1815. The color palette is in pleasing shades of brown, gold, and blue. This was probably cut from a larger picture, and is delicately framed in square black-painted frame with gold-leaf accents. Each stitch is used to its fullest potential giving shading and detail to the floral bouquet and basket. It is a good example of the perfection of needle art in Europe at the end of the eighteenth century.
