Edition Notes
Listed in Stauffer American Engravers on Copper and Steel, Vol. II, p. 281, no. 1689. Listed in Hart Engraved Portraits of George Washington, no. 776. State III is not listed in Stauffer. State I bears the legend: "Published by B. Davies Philad\a 1rst Feb\y 1799"; state II has the publisher's name erased. Although this example is cropped, the print indicates wear on plate. This is probably a second state of the print.
