Dress (Child's dress)

Description

A child's dress, made of cotton muslin. This short dress is heavily decorated with cutwork, inset panels of netting and embroidery. The sleeves are designed with three added "puffs" of sheer fabric at the shoulders. The bodice is decorated with embroidery along the front neckline (including the top of each sleeve). The dress has a high waist, concealed with a plain band of muslin covered throughout with embroidered dots. The waist secures at the back with a brass hook and thread eye. Two deep tucks are placed above the needlework at the bottom of the skirt. The elaborately adorned bottom of the skirt features a 3 1/2" deep band of needlework in a floral and leaf design, executed in netting, satin stitch and bullion stitch. This is followed by two rows of cutwork along the bottom edge.
