Stocking (Fragment)
1780-1810
Description
A fragment of frame knitted silk stocking. A tapered tube of knitted fabric with one lengthwise seam, made with tan silk. Stamped at the top (under the cuff) in black ink "Larissa D. Matlack" The stocking is tied closed in the lower section with a piece of string.The bottom portion of the stocking is missing. An example of late 18th or early 19th century frame knitting.
