Object Name
Chair (Armchair)
Creator (Role)
Elbert Anderson (Furniture Maker); John Boyd (Fabric supplier)
Place of Origin
New York; New York; Mid-Atlantic; United States; North America
Origin Notes
Previously attributed to Elbert Anderson on the basis that his label features an illustration of a side chair with this type of vase back. However, this back pattern was a popular one in Manhattan, with several variations known, and there is little certainty that this or any other chair without his label or stamp was made in his shop. The French-influenced flared front legs are rare and unusual on American chairs. They are most often seen on New York chairs.
Secondary Place of Origin
England; United Kingdom; Europe

This 20th century reproduction haircloth fabric used on this chair was acquired from John Boyd c. 1955.
