Description
William and Mary-style, banister-back side chair made of poplar and ash with a rush seat. The chair back is raked back. The pierced crest rail is carved with scrolls and plumes in the Prince-of-Wales style and has a flat lower edge. A lower horizontal rail has a flat upper edge and is cut in notched double ogee curves along the lower edge. The crest rail and lower rail are mounted between two baluster-turned rear stiles. Compressed ball and urn finials surmount the stiles. Four flat, baluster-shaped spindles are set between the crest rail and the lower rail. The trapezoidal rush seat has exposed corner blocks. The front legs are block-and-baluster-on-ring turned with baluster-and-ball feet. The rear stump legs are continuous with the stiles. Double-ball-and-spool-turned front and side stretchers support the legs. There is a double-vase-turned rear stretcher. A cushion accompanies the chair.
