Description
A dress made of green silk taffeta. The long skirt is gathered around a set-in waistband with extra fullness at the center front. There is a deep hem. The pleated bodice has a high neckline and long full sleeves with wide cuffs at the wrist; upper sleeve fitted and finely pleated; below a band of double cording are additional pleats creating fullness; two thread closure loops at each cuff; additional cording on sleeves around cuffs, at inside seam, and at shoulder seam; other cording at shoulder and around neckline; cording at neckline fitted with a drawstring; center back opening from neckline to below waistband. The section of the pleated upper sleeve is also called Mancheron. The linen lining is stamped behind the right shoulder with a number in black ink "39261/1" and a paper resale tag is attached. "French & Co., Inc./ 39261/1 /Price $50" There is an antique seller in New York by this name, and this may have been a piece of antique costume for sale.
