Description
This silk cravat was a souvenir created to honor Lafayette's 1824 visit to the United States. Cravats are pieces of men's neckwear, wrapped around the neck and tied under the chin with a number of knot variations. This is made from a slim panel of silk damask fabric that is lined with linen and may also be lined with buckram. The woven purple pattern on a cream background depicts the bust of the Marquis de Lafayette. The word "LAFAYETTE" is woven under the bust and flanked by leaf-filled branches.
