Description
This candlestick, one of a set of two, was sand cast in three parts and soldered together, The design of a long candle socket with a baluster shape stem having an upper squared knops and lower rounded one over a richly- stepped, square base with ogee curved corners was fashionable in the early 1700s among British and French silver consumers. Colonial Boston-made silver candlesticks were relatively uncommon and these two bear initials identified as Daniel and Sarah (Hill) Warner who were married on December 15, 1720. The maker, silversmith John Burt impressed his mark four times on the underside of the base.
