Description
Most mourning jewelry includes inscriptions that record the names and dates of the deceased, such as this late eighteenth-century ring. This ring’s yellow twelve-karat gold band is set with an oval cabochon-cut quartz or agate stone surrounded by twenty-five square, faceted amethyst (quartz) stones. The underside of the setting is engraved “Hannah/ Champain/died 23 Oct\r/ 1774/ Aged 50.”
