Description
This small basket is made from wide, woven splints and has two upright handles, carved from maple wood, mounted on opposite sides. The basket’s circular rim and square base give it a rounded square form. The exterior is decorated with painted rows of bars near the lip, while the body has faded blue Xs and trailed designs. This basket’s ornament and construction style indicate it was likely made by a Native American artist from the Pequot tribe in southeastern Connecticut.
