Object Name
Table (Drop-leaf table)
Place of Origin
New York; Mid-Atlantic; United States; North America
Construction Description
Wood Object Examination Report; February 15, 1991: The top of the table is presently fastened down with screws that are located diagonally up through the apron and into the underside of the top. However, there is clear evidence of an unusual and innovative method originally used to attach the top. The method relates this example to a group of New York tables of the same period that employ a system that permits the top to "float" with seasonal changes in moisture content. This is in contrast to the more expected and restrictive systems of glue blocks, screws or nails.**(See Frank Levy, WPEAC Master's Thesis).
