Description
This two-part secretary cabinet features an upper case with marble top, shelves enclosed by mirrored doors and pull-out side sliders to support lamps. Acanthus-carved lion-paw feet support the bottom case which contains a secretary drawer above a cabinet enclosed by doors. Designed in the Grecian Plain style and attributed to the shop of New York City cabinetmaker Duncan Phyfe (1768-1854), it represents a French-inspired form that Phyfe began to offer clients around the year 1820 and continued to make until the early 1840s.
