Description
A Shaker craftsman, probably in the Hancock, Massachusetts Shaker community, made this firewood storage box around 1830. The lid and all four sides of the box are each made of single, large pine boards. The sides are joined to the front and back with dovetails, and the bottom is nailed to all four sides. Brother Ricardo Belden, a Hancock Shaker community blacksmith and clockmaker in the first half of the 20th century made the forked iron tool rests with outward-curled tines.
