Description
A Shaker craftsman, most likely in the Shaker community in New Lebanon, New York, made this tailoring ruler in 1848. This 36-inch ruler is made of maple and retains its original chrome yellow paint. The hole at one end was designed so the ruler could be hung on a peg when not in use. The year "1848” is inscribed very faintly near the peg hole on one side.
