Description
This wooden walker reflects the Shakers’ commitment to caring for the elderly and disabled among their community. Made in a Shaker community in New England or New York, it consists of a turned handhold in the form of a rolling pin, which is supported by three turned legs connected by two horizontal stretchers. The lack of swellings where stretchers join the legs could indicate a mid 19th-century date of make.
