Description
Made in Baltimore around 1800, this kidney-shaped card table features two hinged square tapered legs that swing out to support the top. The edges of the top, the skirts, and the legs are embellished with mahogany veneer and lightwood stringing; oval floral pictorial inlays on green grounds are inset at the tops of the legs. According to family tradition, the table was first owned by Francis Scott Key and passed into the Wye family probably through his son, Charles Henry Key (1827-1869), who married Elizabeth Lloyd (1827-1881) in 1852. It may have been used in Wye House, the Lloyd family seat in Eastern Maryland.
