Description
Inexpensive ceramics and glass of the late 1800s and early 1900s sometimes were used to help educate the young. The glass plate shown here not only facilitated teaching the English alphabet but also taught the young how to read and understand the passage of time. This molded plate is relief-decorated on the underside with the pattern showing through to the front in correct orientation. The design features a central clockface, set to 11:45. Next is a ring listing the days of the week, followed by one showing the months of the year. Outermost are the uppercase letters of the English alphabet. For a transfer-printed ceramic plate that features a clock dial and the alphabet, see 2023.0014.0010.001.
