From the conservation report, dated March 7, 2001: "While there is no clear indication from either design elements or materials to indicate or confirm that this fireback was positively made in North America, it most probably was. By 1769 it was unlikely that wares such as firebacks and other implements were made in England and imported to the American colonies....If this fireback was not imported, it is highly probable that it was made in the mid-Atlantic region."
