Description
This circular bronze medal was awarded to Clarence A. Lawton by the National Association of Cotton Manufacturers upon his graduation from the Bradford Durfee Textile School in 1916. The obverse side of the medal depicts a cotton gin surrounded by a wreath of cotton plants. A ring of cotton skeins encircles the outer edge. Text engraved on the reverse side reads “To Clarence Allen Lawton / Fall River, Massachusetts / For Highest Excellence / The Bradford Durfee Textile School / May 21, 1916.” During his career, Lawton worked as a textile plant manager, researcher, designer, and quality control engineer. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
