Description
This linen table runner was most likely woven in the late 19th century. It is made of light tan linen and features damask woven floral designs, red embroidered strawberries, and knotted fringe. According to the donor, this runner was passed down to a Virginia W. Wright by her great grandmother, Mary Andros Joslin, who received it in turn from her own mother, Caroline Ruggles Joslin, around 1850. A handwritten note on the reverse, near one corner, reads “[To] Virginia from Grandma Joslin – 1908.” This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
