Description
This is a piece of pin paper (part A) and six metal pins (part B). The front of the pin paper is printed with a drawing of a pin manufactory building. Below the building is a coat of arms surrounded by a border, designed to look like a belt, with ends extending into curling banners at the sides. Text on the banner reads “Honi Soit, Qui Mal Y Pense,” (“Shame on him who thinks evil of it”) and “Wealth the Reward of Industry.” To the left and right of the coat of arms are two vignettes, captioned “Heading Pins” and “Sticking Pins,” depicting sewers working with pins. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
