Description
The Danvers Carpet Company (also called the Eagle Carpet Company), located in Danvers, Massachusetts, manufactured this ingrain carpet around 1875 to 1880. The woven design is a full drop repeat pattern of leaves and flowers on a white ground, with rectangular orange blocks spread throughout. This fragment of the rug includes the original label, featuring an image of an eagle above the word “MILLS,” sewn to the reverse. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
