Description
The B. B. & R. Knight Company, located in Providence, Rhode Island, manufactured this cotton cloth sometime between 1920 and 1940. This section of fabric has manufacturer information stamped in blue ink and a label still attached. Textile manufacturers put information like this on bolt ends to both identify their products and proclaim their quality. The label on this cloth reads “Chapman X,” one of the many brand names owned by B. B. & R. Knight. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
