Description
The Lone Star Cotton Mills, located in El Paso, Texas, manufactured this sateen cotton fabric around 1955. This fragment of the textile includes the original label and stenciled manufacturer logo. During the 20th century, textile mills tended to market their goods under a variety of different brand names, or trademarks, depending on the product and where it was being retailed. This “Battleship Brand” sateen was made for export to South Africa. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
