Description
This knitted book cover was manufactured by The American Viscose Corporation for the 1925 National Knitted Outerwear Association yearbook. It is knit from rayon, also called viscose, a synthetic, silk-like fiber. The American Viscose Corporation, founded around 1910, was the first rayon manufacturer in the United States. This textile is tubular with two knit designs arranged side by side, so that when used as a book cover the left design would cover the back and the right design would cover the front of the book. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
