Description
This is a printed pattern for making three stuffed dolls, “Dolly Dimple and the Two Baby Dimples.” It was probably made around 1900 to 1920. Printed doll patterns became popular around the late 19th century and featured multiple views of animals or other characters, which only had to be cut out, sewn together, and stuffed for consumers to make their own soft toy at home. This pattern is for making a doll of a young blonde girl, “Dolly Dimple.” It also includes two smaller dolls – the “Baby Dimples” – sized so the larger doll can have her own stuffed toys. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
