Description
The Cocheco Manufacturing Company, located in Dover, New Hampshire, manufactured and printed this cotton textile around the second half of the 19th century. Its Chinoiserie pattern, printed in red and black on a white ground, is designed to resemble a patchwork quilt. The “patches” contain vignettes of Chinese figures and are accented by smaller, patterned areas. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
