Description
This Jacquard woven ingrain rug was made in the 19th century. It consists of five seamed panels, each approximately 34 inches wide. The rug is mostly red overall, with floral motifs and other designs in dark blue, ivory, and shades of olive green. The design consists of large geometric medallions containing floral motifs. The ground between the medallions is red with a dark blue pattern of chains of elongated octagons. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
