Description
These knit gloves were made around the early to mid-19th century. They are constructed similar to a hooked rug: each glove has an ivory-colored wool base, knit in stockinette stitch, and then other wool yarns are pulled through it to create a shaggy texture. The design includes four diamonds on the back of each hand and horizontal bands at the wrists. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
