Description
The Artistic Weaving Company manufactured this Jacquard woven silk picture in 1928 to commemorate the opening of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It is woven from black and white silk and depicts the outside of the main building of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, with the museum steps, Washington Monument fountain, and two smaller fountains in view. Text below the image reads “27th Annual Banquet of the Alumni Association of the Philadelphia Textile School / Commemorating the Opening of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.” This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
