Description
This is a carved wooden print block used for printing on textiles. It is comprised of two separate pieces of wood, a mahogany base block and a pine handle. The design, carved in relief from the base, consists of short, worm-like stripes, mostly around the edges, which form an irregular pattern. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
