Description
The R. & H. Simon Silk Company, located in Union City, New Jersey, manufactured this “Regatta” brand silk fabric in the late 19th or early 20th century. This section of fabric includes the bolt end with the brand logo – a scene of three boats at sea with the word “Regatta” spelled out by the waves – printed in gold ink. The eye-catching design was perhaps intended to help this fabric stand out among others on crowded store shelves. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
