Description
This cotton yardage was printed in Europe, probably England, around 1765 to 1775. It has a red, copper plate printed design on white ground. The pattern, which repeats vertically, depicts various rural scenes with men, women, animals, and trees. The largest scene in the design shows a woman sitting on a swing hanging from a tree branch, being pushed by another woman standing behind her. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
