Description
This cotton yardage is printed to resemble a patchwork “crazy quilt.” The design is printed primarily in shades of brown, tan, red, blue, and green. It depicts blocks of color with a variety of motifs and shapes, arranged together like a patchwork quilt. The motifs include spiders, hand fans, a beehive, a butterfly, anchors, birds, and a crescent moon. The central medallion depicts a frog on a ladder in a pond, with a caption printed below reading “Fine evening Sir!” This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
