Description
A. L. Reid & Co., located in New York City, manufactured this cotton “Regal Long Cloth” around 1916. This section of cloth includes the bolt end, with manufacturer information printed in blue ink. Textile manufacturers would put information on bolt ends to identify their products, as well as proclaim their quality, to both retailers and consumers. A banner printed on this bolt end declares that the fabric has a “Pure Finish for Machine Sewing.” This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
