Description
This printed cotton fabric is one of the many commemorative textiles designed for the 1876 U.S. Centennial Exposition, which was held in Philadelphia. The rows of musical notes are the tune to “Hail, Columbia,” with alternating rows containing flowering branches and shields reading “Peace.” This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
