Description
The logo for Arnold Print Works, a textile manufacturer located in North Adams, Massachusetts, is printed at the center of this oval-shaped cotton fragment. Arnold Print Works was particularly known for printing doll patterns of animals and other characters. The patterns featured multiple outlined views of a character, which only had to be cut out, sewn together, and stuffed for consumers to make their own cloth doll at home. This fragment was most likely the bottom piece of one such doll. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
