Description
Henry Bowen’s Chemical Print, located in Boston, Massachusetts, printed this cotton handkerchief in 1860. The handkerchief is printed with a large drawing of Edward VII, along with a newspaper article about his visit to North America. Edward VII was the first Prince of Wales to visit the continent, and his tour included a meeting with President James Buchanan and visits to Richmond, Philadelphia, and Boston. This commemorative handkerchief speaks to the positive reception he received on the tour. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
