Description
This early 19th-century linen towel was handwoven by Polly Baker of Fisherfield (now Newbury), New Hampshire. It has 2 selvedge edges and 2 hemmed edges. The 3/1 weave is patterned in bands which cross to form blocks of straight twill, point twill, and diamond twill patterns. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
