Description
This white silk cloth is printed with the text of Andrew Jackson’s farewell address. The speech was delivered on March 4, 1837, and this was most likely printed around 1840. The text is printed across six columns and is surrounded by an intricate border with a repeating leaf motif. In the bottom right corner, within the frame, is the name of the printer, “L. G. Hoffman.” This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
