Rug fragment (Ingrain rug fragment)

Description

This long fragment of ingrain wool carpet was taken in 1962 from the Methuen, Massachusetts home of Edith Walton Russell. Russell was the granddaughter of Edmund M. and Miranda (Frost) Walton, who moved from Belmont to Methuen in 1860, at which time the carpet was purchased for their parlor. It is a triple cloth Jacquard weave with floral motifs in red, white, brown, orange, and black. This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
